A new direction for Total Film and SFX Online

Brands to join GamesRadar to create one entertainment site

GamesRadar main30/09/14 Future plc, the international media group and leading digital business, today announces its plans to combine TotalFilm.com, SFX.co.uk and GamesRadar.com into one market-leading entertainment site.

TotalFilm.com, the website of Total Film; SFX.co.uk, the website of market leading sci-fi magazine SFX, and leading videogames portal GamesRadar.com, are teaming up to create a new destination for film, TV, games, comics and books content.

Launching in November, the new-look website will deliver up-to-date film, TV and game exclusives, reviews and offers in one place. A channel on GamesRadar.com will host all of Future’s film and sci-fi content, allowing readers to view, share and comment on stories more easily and on a more mobile-friendly website. Film fans who love videogames will also now get a wealth of gaming and entertainment news and exclusive offers when visiting the site.

David Bradley, Group Editor-in-Chief for Film, adds: “This move brings our outstanding film, TV and book content to a whole new audience. It’s a great example of all our magazines and online brands working together to create one super entertainment site, reaching more people than ever. I’m excited about how this great new platform will deliver a better online experience for our readers. There will be no changes to the print or digital editions of Total Film or SFX.

Future announces digital initiative for print consumers

First time a publisher has introduced a promotion of this kind for its entire portfolio

Future plc, the international media group and leading digital business, today announces a promotion giving print consumers a free digital edition. The promotion is the first of its kind in the industry, and the first from Future’s new Consumer Revenues team. All issues that go on sale in September, will have the option of a free digital edition. No other publisher has attempted to run a promotion like this across its entire print portfolio. Customers will be given a redemption code, allowing them to download their free issue. The promotion is being supported by a large marketing campaign, covering all of Future’s editorial and advertising channels as well as its social media platforms.

Clair Porteous, Head of Channel Management for Future, says: “This marketing initiative is the first of its kind in the industry. We are generating consumer excitement by a mass appeal promotion which is being pushed across all of our channels. We intend to do more of these in the coming months so watch this space.

Future announces appointment of Richard Haley as new CFO

Future, the international media group, today announces the appointment of Richard Haley as CFO and Company Secretary of Future plc with effect from 1 October 2014.

Richard is currently Finance Director for Tesco Extras UK, prior to which he was Group Financial Controller for Tesco plc. Zillah Byng-Maddick, Chief Executive Officer for Future, said: “Richard brings a wealth of experience within the retail sector and is of enormous value to us as we continue with the Transformation plans already announced.

Richard said: “I am very excited to be joining Future at such an important time in the company’s history and I look forward to supporting the board in driving the company’s development.” The appointment follows the move from CFO to CEO for Zillah Byng-Maddick in April 2014.

Additionally Jeff Turner has joined Future as Commercial Director for Advertising. Jeff brings a wealth of advertising sales experience, most recently from KGB Deals and previously at the Telegraph Media Group leading its digital sales team. Jeff will oversee the advertising sales revenue streams and commercial content creation.

Emma Harvey has been appointed to the role of Product and Technology Director. Emma is responsible for Future’s strategy and execution across IT architecture, product management across all of Future’s channels and the Development and UX teams. Emma joins Future with both VC backed start-up experience and classical training from almost 10 years in telecommunications.

Both Emma and Jeff’s appointments are with immediate effect.

Virgin Holidays’ first ever digital magazine, produced by Future Plus, is Unleashed – for FREE!

Unleashed, the first ever digital travel magazine from Virgin Holidays, has launched for iOS and Android smart devices, in collaboration with content agency Future Plus. Unleashed is packed with a diverse and surprising selection of recommendations and ideas to inspire readers to go on their next adventure.

The launch issue can be downloaded for free from a reader’s favourite app store, and they will then be taken on a digital journey to the Zulu tribes of Kwazulu Natal and through the waterfalls of Costa Rica, to the finest dining in Dubai, zip lining in Jamaica, and beyond. There’s expert photography tips, personal recommendations from the Virgin Holidays’ team, how to see and do it all in Florida, the best travel apps for your trip and a deep dive into the Caribbean culture of Grenada.

There’s even time to get Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams top travel tips! Unleashed will be a quarterly publication, and it revolutionises the way digital magazines present content. The magazine enables readers to create their own beach-to-bar outfits and (literally) discover the best places for pizza in New York by slicing away at an in-app pizza.

Green Man Gaming Announced As Headline Sponsor Of Golden Joystick Awards 2014

Green Man Gaming, one of the world’s biggest digital game retailers, will, for a second year, be the headline sponsor for the Golden Joystick Awards.

Last year, Green Man Gaming sponsored the awards for the first time, and the hugely successful partnership drove a record breaking 10 million votes across all of its categories. In a year that will see the awards move to a new venue – the indigO2 at The O2 – they will be officially titled Golden Joystick Awards presented by Green Man Gaming, and Green Man Gaming will be putting their name to the evening’s most sought-after accolade, Game of the Year.

In addition, a new Most Played Award has been introduced. Using Green Man Gaming’s consumer game tracking service, Playfire, the winner will simply be the game with the most dedicated fans, calculated by the most playing hours. The winner will be announced on the night.
